Some People Do Not Need to Have Their Wisdom Teeth ExtractedPractically everyone that you know is having their wisdom teeth removed, but you haven't had yours taken out yet.

If this scenario sounds like you, you may automatically assume that your wisdom teeth need to come out, too. While many people certainly do need their wisdom teeth extracted, that is not always the case. You could be one whose teeth are healthy and problem-free, and extraction may not be necessary.

Your Wisdom Teeth Have Enough Room

One of the most common reasons that people have their wisdom teeth removed is because their mouths don't have enough room for them. The teeth could be impacted or stuck, meaning there isn't sufficient space for them to break through the jaw. Small mouths or teeth that grow in at a strange angle could be the culprit. However, if your mouth has enough room and your teeth have burst through the gums without issue, you may be able to keep them.

Your Wisdom Teeth Don't Cause Other Problems

In some cases, the wisdom teeth erupt successfully, but they ultimately cause other problems. These may include damage to the surrounding teeth or gum inflammation. Jaw problems can occur due to the development of cysts around the new teeth, and at times, wisdom teeth problems can lead to sinus issues. The wisdom teeth can be difficult to clean in the back of the mouth, and this can eventually lead to cavities, gum disease, and other oral health concerns that justify extraction.

Whether your wisdom teeth are bothering you or you simply want to know if they need to be removed, we are here to help. We will evaluate the health of your wisdom teeth and the rest of your mouth to determine if they need to be removed. Call us today to set up your next appointment.
